Sir David Nicholson KCB CBE was the Chief Executive of the NHS in England – one of the world’s largest healthcare systems – for eight years. Prior to that he held a series of senior positions in the NHS, running major hospitals in London and Birmingham.
He now provides advice and guidance to both governments and individual organisations interested in improving health and healthcare. Over the past 12 months he has worked in China, Brazil, the USA, Mexico, Europe and the Middle East, both independently and in association with the World Health Organisation and the World Bank.
Sir David’s positions include Chair of the Universal Health Coverage Forum of the World Innovation Summit for Health, Chair of Impact Committee of Abraaj Global Health Fund, and adjunct Professor of Global Health at the Institute of Global Health Imperial College.
His contribution to healthcare was recognised by the award of the CBE in 2008, and a knighthood in 2010.
