If you had the power to change your healthcare system, what decisions would you make?
THE ASTELLAS INNOVATION DEBATE™ ‘My Health, My Choice’ game, puts you in control of the number of beds, nurses, GPs and specialists in your country and calculates the impact that your decisions will have on healthcare budget and patient waiting times to see a specialist.
The game has been developed in partnership with Dr Mauro Laudicella, Senior Lecturer in Health Economics at City University London and uses data from the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
THE ASTELLAS INNOVATION DEBATE ‘My Health, My Choice’ game invites players to alter four key variables of healthcare spending in their country: the number of hospital beds, nurses, GPs and specialists. Adjusting from the current levels of these variables, the game will calculate the resulting impact on specialist waiting times and cost, with potentially interesting consequences! Users will be asked how they will fund any increase in expenditure, either by increasing income tax, or by choosing to reallocate money from another government function.
At a time of ever increasing pressures on healthcare systems, funding remains a key issue as costs continue to rise and national incomes struggle to keep up. But although we, as the public, are often quick to criticise, do we really understand the financial implications of the healthcare services that we receive?
